How our medical content is reviewed

Every treatment and condition page on this site names the medical reviewer who checked it and records the date of that review. This page explains how the work is done and introduces the people behind it.

The process

How a treatment page is produced

  1. 01

    Research and drafting

A medical writer gathers the current peer-reviewed literature and clinical guidance for the condition, then drafts the page for a reader who is facing the diagnosis for the first time.

  2. 02

    Citation check

Every claim is tied to a named study or guideline. The citations are listed on the page so readers can check the sources themselves.

  3. 03

    Medical review

The medical reviewer reads the cited studies, compares them with the wording on the page and returns the draft until every statement matches the evidence.

  4. 04

    Dated re-review

Pages are re-read when new evidence is published or the clinical guidance changes. Each page shows the date of its last review.

What the review means

Accurate information, not individual advice

Medical review confirms that a page describes the published evidence accurately and states its limits plainly. It does not mean that a treatment is suitable for any particular reader. Eligibility is decided only after the clinical team has reviewed a patient's diagnosis, history and records.

If you believe a page contains an error, or a cited study has been superseded, please tell us. Corrections are reviewed by the medical reviewer and the page is updated with a new review date.
